My class this past Friday (12/13/19) was a good example of a week in which it was nice to have a "library" of playlists to pull from, and it was a good illustration of how to be flexible as a yoga teacher, not just as a yoga student.
The playlist I used this week was from my own library, my "Peeps Likey" playlist. It's actually a really old playlist; I probably made it over a year ago. The reason I called it "Peeps Likey" is: every time I use it, someone comments on how much they liked it. This week was no different - I had someone come up to me after class and say that they loved the playlist. So, it's aptly named. However, it actually wasn't the playlist I had originally planned for this week. I was going to use a different playlist that I started a long time ago called "No Words" - the first playlist that I put together where it was all instrumental and there were no words in it. I figured, "oh, the weather's bad, you know, everybody will probably be in a tired/kinda chill mood, so I'll use this playlist," since, it wasn't super upbeat. Then I got to class and realized that everybody was super chipper. I saw a friend who I hadn't seen in months (love you, Lauren!), and everybody seemed very excited, so the "No Words" list didn't seem to fit the mood of the room. So, I changed over to one of my old playlists and it was great - Everybody liked it.
I knew Lauren loves this one particular Savasana song, so I used it to cap off this list. It's called Memories by Emmit Fenn.
The students wanted some core work -- let me re-phrase that -- one person wanted core work, so I decided to throw in a couple different things. I used the small core yoga balls for the first time in my class. I need a bit more practice teaching with those, but everyone got a good core workout none-the-less. Boat pose is a must for core work, so I threw in a minute hold in boat pose at the end. Everyone survived and was smiling at the end. It was a great class. I went into the class thinking it was going to be low energy, but boy was I wrong. I'm glad I was.
In case you are one of those people who have told me you like my "Peeps Likey" playlist, below is the full breakdown of songs. Enjoy, my friends.
