Gloomy With a Side of Joy

Hello, my peeps! How are you on this dreary Friday? I was not in the best mood when my alarm went off this morning and I saw there was no sunshine outside. If you know me, you know I'm a sunshine kind of gal. Rain is nice for 1-2 days and, most importantly, I don't have to go out into it. Unfortunately, I couldn't stay snuggled in bed with the hubby but the good news is at least I was going to do something fun...YOGA! I was interested to see who would brave the rain to make it to yoga. Answer: all the regular peeps. My morning class at Elevate was a class of 4 regular Tayoga peeps and I decided to use a very old playlist that I had never used in class before. It is different than all other Tayoga playlists because none of the songs contain words. It was a last minute decision to use this playlist instead of the new playlist I made last night because having no words means it is a little more low key usual. I figured it went well with the lack of sunshine. Since it was a diff

Bring Your Kid To Yoga

In case you haven't heard, I have restarted my Friday lunchtime yoga - but with a new twist. It is now "Mommy (or Daddy) and Me Yoga," so bring your little one(s) with you! I will have Edison with me and we can have a grand ol' time. Yoga is great for all ages, so start them young. The class is still located at the Dragonfly-Art for Life at 1210 J Street in downtown Modesto. Class is now 11:30am-12pm and kiddos of all ages are welcome. If you would like to sign up, check out Tayoga Class Signup to reserve your spot.  Hope to see you there! Namas(tay).

Tayoga Conversation with Sharon Taporco

Sharon Taporco is a HUGE part of the Modesto Yoga Community - she teaches so many different styles of yoga at many different locations. We’ve been able to hang out a few times and even did our Assisting Program through Elevate together. Through this conversation, I have had the pleasure of getting to know her a little better, and now you can get to know her a little bit better, too! Not only does Sharon teach a lot of yoga, but she is also going to school, so she is one busy lady. It took us a little while to complete this conversation because we have both been busy, but I promise it is worth the wait! Enjoy, my friends. Tayoga: How did you get started with yoga? Sharon: My mother introduced me to yoga when I was in high school. She took me to the class she went to at Gold's Gym (yeah, that long ago), and, as it turns out, Debra Rocha was our yoga teacher. I didn't make that connection until I started teaching in 2017 when my Mom pointed it out. To be honest, it took m

A Nap Was Needed

I am pleased to report that this past weekend I was able to teach yoga at Elevate Community Yoga in Roseburg Square, Dragonfly-Art for Life/Zoom where I do my lunchtime yoga, and at Sukha Studios in McHenry Village. Teaching 3 classes within 24 hours and being pregnant/not sleeping well definitely led to a 3 hour nap on Saturday. It was amazing! I hope you all had a great weekend. Seize the week and I hope to see you Friday. Namas(tay).

Back At It - In More Ways Than One!

Hi all! This is going to be a quick post because it is a busy Monday! Andrew and I spent the last week at the beach for our anniversary. That means it is back to work today. Wish us luck. In more exciting news, TAYOGA IS BACK AT ELEVATE! My usual 9am Vinyasa class resumes this Friday, June 5th at Elevate Community Yoga. Space is limited to 11 due to distancing requirements, so be sure to sign up online instead of just showing up like usual. It's going to be so fun to be back at the studio... though I did enjoy teaching in the park as well. Additional exciting news, the Dragonfly-Art for Life plans to reopen Friday, June 12th. This is where I usually hold my lunchtime yoga class. I am working with Barbara, the owner, to see what we can work out for restarting lunchtime yoga on Fridays 12:15-12:45pm. I'll keep you posted on this and will continue to use Zoom until further notice. So many exciting things. I can't wait to start SEEING people again! Take care. Be safe. S

Baby Tayoga Update

Hi all! Just wanted to give you a little update - I am currently 17 weeks pregnant and feeling good. We have our big appointment set at 20 weeks where we will find out the gender (Eeeee!). I'm going to savor this 2nd trimester! I'm sure you have all heard a pregnant woman at one time or another say, "the baby is the size of a ____!" Well, I am no different. I have been following the Glow app on my phone, and every week I get so excited to see what the next size is. Andrew and I have made a little game of it - every week the baby has a different name based on the size. My mom mentioned last week that I should keep track of all the names we have given the baby thus far, so, here's our so far is listed below. Let me know which one is your favorite. Some weeks, we were more creative than others. 🧡 Baby Tayoga Names Week by Week Chocolate Chip - "Chip" - Weeks 5 to 8 Blueberry - "Berry" - Week 9 Green Olive - "Olive" - Week 10 Ku

Tayoga Conversation with Angel Villagomez

Tayoga Conversation alert! Angel Villagomez is our featured yogi this week. I have had the pleasure of getting to know Angel a little better since he has been coming to my Lunchtime yoga on Fridays (thanks for the support!); but there was so much more I wanted to know. Everyone’s story is unique and Angel’s is no exception. I hope you enjoy this conversation as much as I enjoyed putting it together. Tayoga: How did you get started with yoga and at what point did you decide to complete teacher training?  Angel: I took my first yoga class at MJC. I needed to fulfill my physical education requirement, and I was into that show  Dharma & Greg  at the time, so I figured yoga was as good of a choice as any. I really enjoyed the class and continued taking more classes at In-Shape. It was many years before I migrated to studios, mostly because the cost - especially compared to free classes at a gym at which I was already a member. I had a few college friends who attended I Am Yo

NO Lunchtime Yoga Until 2020

Hi all! This is just a quick note to let you all know that my free lunchtime yoga at Dragonfly-Art for Life in downtown Modesto is going on vacation for the rest of the year. With this busy holiday season (and not so ideal weather), I decided to cancel the rest of the lunchtime classes for December. No need to fret, though; Anita, Brittnie, and I will be back in the new year so you can start your New Years' resolution of going to yoga every Friday 😉. We wish you all a very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year! Cheers and Namas(tay), my friends.

Workplace Tayoga

Friday was the first official workplace Tayoga. It was held for the employees of the Almond Board of California, which is located on the top floor of the Doubletree Hotel in Modesto. This event came about because one of the employees had attended my free Friday lunchtime yoga at the Dragonfly-Art for Life. She enjoyed it and thought it would be nice to bring yoga to the workplace. I couldn't agree more! No matter where you work, it seems like stress is always present. It's the degree of stress that seems to vary. Whether you experience a little stress or a lot of stress at work, yoga is always a good idea, in my opinion! The Almond Board brought me in to teach yoga as a way to help the employees relieve stress. This makes me so happy because stress sucks! Count me in for helping others relieve some of that nonsense! I had 10 ladies join me for this 45 minute yoga session. I thought it was going to be chair yoga, but when I walked in, they had their conference room set up with

Ladies

Hi there! Just checking in to say hello. I am currently relaxing and enjoying the weather. I taught the usual Friday Tayoga classes (9am at Elevate and 12:15pm at Dragonfly Art for Life). This morning was especially fun because I had all ladies in my class, so I was able to use my Girl Power playlist that I had created months ago! Yay! It was also fun because my sister-n-law, Joy, was in town and made it to both classes. We grabbed tea with Anita at the Dragonfly Tea Room in Roseburg square. It is the perfect time of year for a pot of tea. Today was also special because the lovely Brittnie King brought 5 week old baby Aurora to lunchtime yoga and taught the class for the first time in a while! It was an eventful and fun 30 minute session - which also included all ladies. It was a morning for the ladies, apparently. Now to balance it out I'll go see Blue MAN Group at the Gallo Theater tonight! Haha. Happy weekend, my friends. Namas(tay).

Busy Weekend

The weekend was full of family, friends, rain, Game of Thones, and of course...yoga. Friday Fridays are my big yoga days. I taught my usual 9am class at Elevate Community Yoga. The class flowed to a couple of Spice Girls song which I think went over well! We focused on binds with our peak posture being Bird of Paradise. Almost the entire class got into it! Some for the first time! Wahoo! After that I had a pot of tea with one of my favorite people, Anita (Tayoga conversation is in the works with this lovely lady so stay tuned!). Tea was followed by lunchtime yoga downtown at the Dragonly-Art for Life. One of the students that attended had a new knee injury so lunchtime yoga was transformed into chair yoga! Brittnie King led us through the perfect 30 minute chair yoga. It just goes to show we welcome all levels at our Free Yoga Fridays! To continue with the Friday Yoga theme, I headed to Escalon to teach yoga to my niece's 4th grade class one more time before the end of the scho

Life is GOOD!

I don't have any real theme for this post - just a couple random thoughts since life feels really good right now. 1) THE SUN IS OUT!!! I am a spring/summer girl for sure! The hubby and I went for a bike ride with friends yesterday. It was great! And yes... I do other forms of exercise besides yoga! 2) My birthday is tomorrow! I will be 31-derful! I have the day off work - the current plans are: yoga, massage, hanging with my mama, then later with the hubby. My birthday really started on Saturday and is lasting for a week. Wahoo! 3) A yoga studio reached out to me to see if I would be interested in being on their sub list! That's exciting. 4) Several Tayoga things are coming up!        - Lunchtime yoga is being added to Tayoga Fridays (12-12:30pm) at the Dragonfly-Art for Life        - Game of Thrones Yoga is this Saturday (11am-12:15pm) at Elevate Community Yoga. Snacks and raffle prizes are in the works.        -I will also be subbing extra days at Elevate in Mode

I thought yoga and art would go perfectly together, thus creating the idea to hold yoga classes at an art gall
