Happy "Belated" Thanksgiving

Hi all! How is it December tomorrow? Anyone else feel like time is just flying by? Anyway, I just popped on here to wish you a belated Happy Thanksgiving. Andrew, Edison, and I had 3 Thanksgivings this year. Having multiple in one day can be rough so I am very thankful that is was only one per day. In between the busyness of Thanksgiving, teaching Black Friday Tayoga, and attending a Gallo show this last weekend, I am pleased to report that the Huff House is fully decorated for Christmas. Our tree is up and Edison is enjoying taking all the ornaments within reach off of it. Let's just say the top of our tree is heavy with ornaments! I am not a fan of winter but Christmas and all it comes with is most certainly the redeeming quality of winter. Though I will admit the weather the past couple days has been quite lovely but don't tell anyone I admitted that ;) Have a lovely day and a very Merry Christmas season, my friends. Namas(tay). P.S. Black Friday Tayoga was a small class but

Gloomy With a Side of Joy

Hello, my peeps! How are you on this dreary Friday? I was not in the best mood when my alarm went off this morning and I saw there was no sunshine outside. If you know me, you know I'm a sunshine kind of gal. Rain is nice for 1-2 days and, most importantly, I don't have to go out into it. Unfortunately, I couldn't stay snuggled in bed with the hubby but the good news is at least I was going to do something fun...YOGA! I was interested to see who would brave the rain to make it to yoga. Answer: all the regular peeps. My morning class at Elevate was a class of 4 regular Tayoga peeps and I decided to use a very old playlist that I had never used in class before. It is different than all other Tayoga playlists because none of the songs contain words. It was a last minute decision to use this playlist instead of the new playlist I made last night because having no words means it is a little more low key usual. I figured it went well with the lack of sunshine. Since it was a diff

Where Have I Been?

Where have I been, you might ask? Unfortunately, no exciting trips to explain my two month hiatus from writing a blog post. Yep... it basically comes down to me being lazy! Or should I blame the fact that I have a one year old? Yes, let's do that. Edison has kept me sooo busy the last 2 months that I have not had a single moment to create a post. ;)   I did have a good excuse last week, since a cold went through the Huff household. I promise it was just a cold and not that darn virus that won't seem to go away. I'm so tired of hearing about it that we should treat it like Voldemort from Harry Potter and call it, "It that shall not be named," or something of the sort. Anyway, I've gone off on a tangent.  Yoga... since that is what this blog is about... What to say about yoga? Hmm... I didn't teach last week, so today was my first day back after my cold and it felt so good. I tried a couple new little quirky moves that I will definitely use again. Since the

What A Week

It has been quite an interesting week, hence why this post is getting done on Sunday instead of Friday. I am meeting a very good friend for a walk soon so I will keep this brief. Sunday - Huff Family get-together since Grandma is moving out of her house after 40+ years. Monday - My first day at my new job at Central Valley Specialty Hospital. Tuesday - My last day at my old job, Garden City Healthcare, after 7+ years. Wednesday - Girls day (plus Edison) with my Mom, Sister, and Aunt. As a bonus we went to dinner for my Mother-n-law's birthday at Redwood Cafe. Thursday - Errand running (quite productive but not very exciting). Friday - Taught my 9am Vinyasa class at Elevate. It was so much fun! I made a "So Long" playlist as a tribute to my old job. There was good energy in the room and everyone seemed to have a good time.  Saturday - Edison was baptized at St. Joseph's Catholic Church and then family came to our house afterwards. It was such a beautiful special day a

Change Is Coming

My brain has been a bit scattered lately. If you read last week's post you will know the main reason why. The other major reason (besides being a mom) is because I am transitioning to a new job. I have been the RD at Garden City Healthcare for almost seven and a half years. It is hard to leave; but, I must admit, I'm a little excited for the change, as well. Hopefully, once I'm a little more settled in my new position my brain will get back on track!  My Tayoga class this morning was fun but I messed up on a couple of the cues (scattered brain side effects). I tried to tell everyone to bring their gaze up to the ceiling but at that moment I forgot what the ceiling was called! Haha :) Oh well. It happens.  I revamped an old playlist last night and I am pleased to report that I even got a compliment on it today which makes this playlist better than the original version! It is so nice when that happens.  Ok... I have to go put the boy down for a nap. Happy Friday, my friends.

Off The Top Of My Head

Happy Friday! It is a gorgeous day outside. Andrew went golfing and Edison and I will be heading to my sister's house shortly to color some Easter eggs. Our poor little guy got 3 shots yesterday, so he's not feeling all that good. He is currently napping which is the opportune time to write my weekly blog :) I am excited to say that I actually got to take a yoga class last night. It felt so good. A friend encouraged me to go, so I'm hoping to make it a regular thing. It sure helps having lots of family around to help with the kiddo. Yoga was quite a bit of fun this morning. I had 5 people attend, and before class they were talking about how all the Elevate teachers had kicked things up a notch since returning from the latest COVID closure. They mentioned that they liked challenging classes, so I took that as a challenge! For having no plan going in to the class I think it turned out quite well! There were lots of planks, core work, and leg strengthening. I even tried out a

I Love Naps

Not going to lie... I just woke up from a glorious 3 hour nap! Edison just woke up as well so I have to make this quick.  Class this morning was quite lovely. This morning was really cold so I decided we were going to heat things up a bit. I had seven lovely ladies in class and I definitely had them MOVING! It was simple flows but they were quick. By the end, everyone was nice and toasty.  Apparently, the playlist was working well for everyone because I got a couple compliments on it. It was an old playlist I decided to revamp and I am glad I did. I asked the class what it should be called and they said "Move" because that is definitely what we did in class.  Well I better go feed the little guy. I'm on a two week blog post streak now! Wahoo!  Happy weekend, my friends. Namas(tay).

I'm back... Again!

Well... as you've probably noticed, it has been 2 months since my last blog post... bad job by me! I used to post on Mondays, but I just have not had time to get around to it regularly on Mondays; so my new plan is to post on Fridays. I'm not sure why I haven't thought of this before, since most of my Tayoga things happen on Fridays. Last week, I scheduled a reminder on my phone to write a post today and it worked! Edison just went down for a nap, so it is perfect timing.  Let's see... I've been teaching in studio since November. Class sizes have been pretty small, but the last couple weeks I have had 8 people. I was talking with a fellow teacher after class today and was saying how 8 people used to be a small class - but now, 8 people is practically packed! Haha :) OK, not really, but when 2-3 was the normal, it sure seems like it.  I have continued with my usual fun playlists and funky flows. I feel like I've been more creative with my flows because I do a lot

Black Friday Tayoga

I am pleased to report that I do remember how to teach yoga! My first class back was last Friday. There were only 2 people there, but they were 2 lovely individuals and it was the perfect way to get back into the swing of things. I am also pleased to report that Edison did great hanging out with Granny C while I was away. Whew!  On another note, Black Friday is this Friday! I love teaching on Black Friday because there is always a lot of energy in the room. People are usually off from work and want to come work off some of the turkey they ate the day before. We shall see if this year is the same. Whoever decides to attend will get an updated Black Friday playlist. Last year's playlist was pretty good, so it may be difficult to top, but I will give it my best effort! Hope to see you there. Happy Thanksgiving, my friends. Namas(tay).

What A Weekend

This weekend was so lovely. Despite only sleeping about 3 hours Friday night, I had the absolute BEST day on Saturday. It started bright and early at 7:30am with me teaching a 75 minute Vinyasa class at Ashby Park. The yoga class was the first leg of the Fukari Tribe Triathlon. Elevate Community members also came out to enjoy some fresh morning air and yoga, so we had quite the group of people! For this special event, I created an "Action" playlist - all songs that mentioned walking, running, biking, swimming, jumping, etc. Our peak pose was literally jumping up and down to Kris Kross' "Jump." Haha! That put a smile on everyone's face. To top off the event, I sold lots of Tayoga swag! Tank tops, t-shirts, sunglasses, and decals. I'm going to have to get more made now - which is a good problem to have. My Merch Maker is also quite excited about it! After I finished up with Tayoga in the park, I hurried home to get ready for my baby shower!

COVID Pregnancies

Just a fun picture of me and my co-worker/friend, Kayla, celebrating our COVID pregnancies. Kayla is one of my secret weapons for my playlists. She loves helping me come up with songs. I'll get texts from her on random days and times with song ideas. It always makes me smile. She just moved to Kentucky last week 😭 but she still plans to help me with playlists! Just you wait... Tayoga will be nationwide before you know it! Have a great week! Namas(tay). I realize we aren't social distancing but how cute is this picture? At least our masks are on!

Follow Up From Last Week!

I got to teach at Elevate last Friday! Wahoo! It was so much fun to be back in the studio and using my playlists again. Only 3 people joined for class but I absolutely loved it. We had a great time flowing as well as catching up. I tried to record the class for Facebook Live, but, of course, technology and I are not best friends, so there was technical difficulty. Hopefully I'll get it figured out for this next Friday! Kaycie (the owner of the studio) has gone to great lengths to create a safe environment at Elevate. There are spots marked out on the floor to ensure 6 feet social distancing - which means only 11 students are allowed per class. No props or mats are provided, so definitely bring your own. Also, all the teachers mop after class to make sure everything is clean for the next class. The Elevate website (www.elevatecommunityyoga.com) has the full list of precautions that are being taken to ensure everyone who enters Elevate has peace of mind. I think that about does

Tayoga in the Park

This past Friday was absolutely AMAZING! I got to teach a 75 minute Vinyasa class IN PERSON to 8 lovely ladies. A friend of mine suggested I should do yoga in the park, which sounded like a fantastic idea! There are so many parks to choose from in Modesto; I wanted to find one that would be somewhat quiet and would provide some shade if needed (I don't want my students cooking in the sun!). With the help of Andrew (who knows this town very well) we settled on Ashby Park. It is a small park nestled in a quiet neighborhood. The park is grass and trees - no playground, no benches - it was PERFECT! Speaking of perfect, please tell me you were able to get outside this past Friday because the weather was absolute perfection. I'm sure God planned it that way for my first live yoga class back. As you can see from the picture, it was comfortable to practice in the sun with a light breeze providing relief when things started warming up! I will definitely will continue to do Tayoga in A

Tayoga Conversation with Mary Garvey

I am pleased to report that this conversation is the 8 th conversation since starting the Tayoga Conversations about a year ago. I’m more pleased to report that it is with the lovely and talented, Mary Garvey! Mary and I first met when she completed her Teacher Training last year at Elevate Community Yoga. We hadn’t really hung out much until we spent most of the day chatting at a friend’s birthday brunch (prior to sheltering at home, of course). It was during this time that I realized I wanted to get to know her more and a Tayoga Conversation was the perfect way to do it… especially during this crazy time! This truly is a great conversation. I feel very blessed to be able to do these conversations with amazing people. Mary truly is amazing and lovely, and I know you will enjoy this read. Sit back, relax, maybe have a beer or a glass of wine, and enjoy the conversation! Tayoga:  How did you get started with yoga and at what point did you decide to complete teacher training?

Free Tayoga Playlist - Social Distancing/Feel Good

In light of the virus craziness, I wanted to make a social distancing playlist, with a bit of encouragement for staying mentally well. Since there are no studio classes allowed in California right now, I haven't had a chance to use this playlist, but I have listened to it multiple times. It's just a little something to make you laugh and help you feel good. Other Tayoga playlists are available through my Patreon. Feel free to check them out by clicking  here . Stay safe out there! Namas(tay). Main List: 1. One – Harry Nilsson – 2:54 2. What’s Up? – 4 Non Blondes – 4:55 3. You Gotta Be – Des’ree – 4:05 4. Don’t Stand So Close to Me (Remastered 2003) – The Police – 4:01 5. Tayoga Conversation with Angel Villagomez

Tayoga Conversation alert! Angel Villagomez is our featured yogi this week. I have had the pleasure of getting to know Angel a little better since he has been coming to my Lunchtime yoga on Fridays (thanks for the support!); but there was so much more I wanted to know. Everyone’s story is unique and Angel’s is no exception. I hope you enjoy this conversation as much as I enjoyed putting it together. Tayoga: How did you get started with yoga and at what point did you decide to complete teacher training?  Angel: I took my first yoga class at MJC. I needed to fulfill my physical education requirement, and I was into that show  Dharma & Greg  at the time, so I figured yoga was as good of a choice as any. I really enjoyed the class and continued taking more classes at In-Shape. It was many years before I migrated to studios, mostly because the cost - especially compared to free classes at a gym at which I was already a member. I had a few college friends who attended I Am Yo
