Peeps Likey

My class this past Friday (12/13/19) was a good example of a week in which it was nice to have a "library" of playlists to pull from, and it was a good illustration of how to be flexible as a yoga teacher, not just as a yoga student. The playlist I used this week was from my own library, my "Peeps Likey" playlist. It's actually a really old playlist; I probably made it over a year ago. The reason I called it "Peeps Likey" is: every time I use it, someone comments on how much they liked it. This week was no different - I had someone come up to me after class and say that they loved the playlist. So, it's aptly named. However, it actually wasn't the playlist I had originally planned for this week. I was going to use a different playlist that I started a long time ago called "No Words" - the first playlist that I put together where it was all instrumental and there were no words in it. I figured, "oh, the weather's bad, you know

NO Lunchtime Yoga Until 2020

Hi all! This is just a quick note to let you all know that my free lunchtime yoga at Dragonfly-Art for Life in downtown Modesto is going on vacation for the rest of the year. With this busy holiday season (and not so ideal weather), I decided to cancel the rest of the lunchtime classes for December. No need to fret, though; Anita, Brittnie, and I will be back in the new year so you can start your New Years' resolution of going to yoga every Friday 😉. We wish you all a very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year! Cheers and Namas(tay), my friends.

Tayoga Conversation with Kaycie Hall

If you are involved in the Modesto Yoga Community you have most likely heard the name Kaycie. Kaycie is a HUGE part of this community and that is putting things mildly. In this latest Tayoga Conversation, Kaycie and I talk about her yoga journey thus far, our mutual love for Modesto, and what the future has in store for this beloved friend and studio owner. Take a moment out of your busy day and get to know a little but more about this amazing woman. Tayoga: How did you get started with yoga and at what point did you decide to complete teacher training? Kaycie: I started Yoga in 2012 when I decided I wanted to live a healthier lifestyle. I started running (completing my first half marathon), then moved to working out from home through a p90x workout video, where I tried yoga for the first time ever. My first experience with yoga was challenging - I felt like all the postures were out of my physical range and that one would have to be a noodle to get into them. I continued anyway

Workplace Tayoga

Friday was the first official workplace Tayoga. It was held for the employees of the Almond Board of California, which is located on the top floor of the Doubletree Hotel in Modesto. This event came about because one of the employees had attended my free Friday lunchtime yoga at the Dragonfly-Art for Life. She enjoyed it and thought it would be nice to bring yoga to the workplace. I couldn't agree more! No matter where you work, it seems like stress is always present. It's the degree of stress that seems to vary. Whether you experience a little stress or a lot of stress at work, yoga is always a good idea, in my opinion! The Almond Board brought me in to teach yoga as a way to help the employees relieve stress. This makes me so happy because stress sucks! Count me in for helping others relieve some of that nonsense! I had 10 ladies join me for this 45 minute yoga session. I thought it was going to be chair yoga, but when I walked in, they had their conference room set up with

New Tayoga Things Coming Up

Hi all! I walked into work yesterday irritable and a bit angry. I wasn't quite sure why. At the end of the work day I knew I had to go to yoga to help fix myself up. I pushed myself pretty hard (not too hard of course... I don't need any injuries) and it felt so good. While I was laying in Savasana I came to the conclusion (yes, I was thinking in Savasana) that I was in a bit of a rut when it came to work. My full time job as a Registered Dietitian is considered my "work work" and Tayoga is considered my "fun work." I decided that I hadn't worked on anything new with Tayoga and maybe if I started working on something new it would get me out of the mental rut I have been having recently. I brainstormed a bit with the hubby last night and now I have a couple things brewing which I am quite excited about. Just working on these ideas a little bit have put me in a much better mood today. I will keep you posted about what they are. Let's just say you mig

Ladies

Hi there! Just checking in to say hello. I am currently relaxing and enjoying the weather. I taught the usual Friday Tayoga classes (9am at Elevate and 12:15pm at Dragonfly Art for Life). This morning was especially fun because I had all ladies in my class, so I was able to use my Girl Power playlist that I had created months ago! Yay! It was also fun because my sister-n-law, Joy, was in town and made it to both classes. We grabbed tea with Anita at the Dragonfly Tea Room in Roseburg square. It is the perfect time of year for a pot of tea. Today was also special because the lovely Brittnie King brought 5 week old baby Aurora to lunchtime yoga and taught the class for the first time in a while! It was an eventful and fun 30 minute session - which also included all ladies. It was a morning for the ladies, apparently. Now to balance it out I'll go see Blue MAN Group at the Gallo Theater tonight! Haha. Happy weekend, my friends. Namas(tay).

I Love Modesto

I know I say this frequently on my Instagram account, @tayoga_motown , but I want to say it here, as well. I LOVE MODESTO! I grew up in Manteca, went to school in San Luis Obispo and Sacramento, and now I live and work in Modesto. I couldn't be happier. This surprises a lot of people. I frequently hear negative things about this city that I love and part of me just wants to tell those people to leave. If you want to be bored in this city, then you can be bored. If you want to have a good time, there is always something going on. For instance, this past week, 7 international artists came to Modesto to help beautify this city. They painted large murals in alleyways off of J St. and 10th St. - you know I was downtown checking them out! Enjoying the murals and DoMo Partnership's First Fridays was just the beginning of the night. Andrew and our friends headed to Ralston's Goat for live music from Bangarang (dancing included, of course!); listened to the live DJ at Lofi; and the
